Die wolveiling het hierdie week sy stygende tendens voortgesit en weer eens hoër verhandel / The wool auction of this week maintained its increasing tendency and again traded higher.

MARKANALISE

Die koper was Standard Wool. Hartlik geluk met die uitstekende prys!

VOORUITSIGTE

MARKET ANALYSIS

The wool auction of this week maintained its increasing tendency and again traded higher. The Cape Wools Market Indicator increased by 6.6% and by 1573 points, to close on R253.82/kg (clean). The Australian EMI, the world leading indicator, increased by 1.6%. The upwards movement of the local market is mainly coursed by the weakening of the Rand against the US Dollar and other important currencies. This week the Rand traded 7.9% weaker and on levels of R15.51 against the US Dollar, compared to the previous sale. A continued strong demand though, for South African Merino Wool, across all lengths and micron groups, can still be seen as one of the main drivers for the performance of the market. Healthy competition amongst buyers, was again significant and the main role players were Modiano, who bought the largest quantity, followed by Standard Wool, Lempriere SA and Tianyu SA. 11 225 bales were on offer in total, of which 99.1% were sold. OVK offered 2 805 bales, of which 98.7% was sold. The highest price on the OVK auction, of R239.90, was form the clip of ST Bursey from King Williamstown, for a 2 bale lot BFH of 17.7 microns. The buyer was Standard Wool. Congratulations on the excellent performance!

FORECAST

The exceptional levels of the current wool market, should maintain its run in the short to medium term. This performance can mainly be attributed to the weak trading of the Rand against the US Dollar, as well as the Euro. The tumbling of the Rand is mainly in reaction on the announcement that South Africa is currently finding himself in a technical recession. Sentiments are also worldwide negative against emerging currencies, because of various reasons, such as the trade issues between the USA and China, as well as the collapsing of the economy in Venezuela, which resulted in a humanitarian crisis. The worldwide demand and preference towards the South African clip, is still a positive though. We also again want to emphasize the absolute necessity and the importance of vaccinating against Rift Valley Fever, which shows to be a bigger and bigger probability in the up and coming summer season. This is now, after ewes have lambed off, the ideal time to vaccinate with the live vaccine, which is available at your OVK branches, as well as other Agri businesses.
