Die 5de Sybokhaarveiling van die 2018 winter verkoopseisoen het op feitlik dieselfde prysvlak as die vorige veiling ge-eindig / The 5th mohair sale of the 2018 winter selling season ended at a very similar price level as the previous sale

MARKANALISE

So berig  Pierre van der Vyver, Bestuurder: Sybokhaar.

MARKET ANALYSIS

The 5th mohair sale of the 2018 winter selling season had a shaky start, but recovered through the day to end at a very similar price level as the previous sale. The strengthening exchange rate did play a role, but also some bad yielding lots, caused by the drought, played their part. Although this offering might be a bit better than the previous sales, low clean yields, in general, remains a problem. The clip of Jordi and Gay van Hasselt of Prince Albert was the exception and excelled with a best price of R508.00/kg, the second-best price of the day. Manie du Plessis from Sontana Farming, Oudtshoorn, took the honours, with the best price at R512.20/kg. This price was paid for a good style winter kid bale of 25micron and a clean yield of 87.4%

Today's sales analysis is as follows:  The price of kids decreased by 2,6% with a market indicator of R368,54/kg and a 100% sale clearance; young goat hair was unchanged with a market indicator of R301,16/kg and a sale clearance of 99%. Adult mohair was also unchanged with a market indicator of R257,59/kg  and 100% sold. This brought the overall sale clearance to 100% and the overall market indicator to R288,14/kg which is unchanged.

MARKET OUTLOOK

Everybody in the industry are taken by surprise with the sudden dramatic drop in production. We are in the closing week for intake for this winter season and are already 10% down in delivery. This drop was forecasted by everybody, including CMW, for the past two seasons, but it never fully materialized until now. The drop might be even bigger. One of the reasons is that farmers fed their animals for production to at least rear a kid, but are now running out of food and money. This sale was half the size of the previous one and the next sale will be even smaller. This fact alone, should see the market staying at least on the current price levels till the end of the season, on condition that there are no dramatic movements in the exchange rate levels. The second last sale of the season will be offered in Port Elizabeth on the 20th of November 2018. So reported by Pierre van der Vyver, Manager : Mohair.
